Dr. Franz X. Stirnimann

Franz Stirnimann specializes in international arbitration, litigation, and Swiss commercial law. He has more than 15 years' experience in complex international dispute resolution and Swiss commercial legal transactions and has acted as counsel and arbitrator in over 70 international arbitration and court proceedings in Switzerland and other countries. He has a Ph.D. in Swiss and comparative antitrust law and regularly also provides advice on antitrust matters. Franz Stirnimann is of both Swiss and Latin American origin and trilingual in German, Spanish and English, fluent in French and conversant in Portuguese and Italian.

Jean Marguerat

Jean has experience across all areas of dispute resolution, with particular expertise in international arbitration and in international litigation. Jean is one of the authors of the Commentary on the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration. Jean has been a Partner in our Geneva office since 2010. Jean’s practice focuses on international arbitration, litigation and contract law. Jean has experience as party counsel and as arbitrator in numerous institutional and ad hoc international arbitrations involving sale of goods and commodities, distribution and agency, construction, marine works, joint ventures corporate transactions and sport related matters. He also regularly represents clients before the Swiss courts in all fields of commercial disputes and notably those in relation to arbitration (enforcement and challenge of arbitral awards). His activity includes recognition & enforcement proceedings (including attachments) and international legal assistance.

Dr. Jean-Marie Vulliemin

Jean-Marie is the managing partner of both Geneva and Madrid offices. With broad experience in international commercial arbitration, in particular with Spain and Latin America, he acts both as counsel and as arbitrator. He is very active in art and sports law, as well as in international estate law. Chambers Global has ranked Jean-Marie for many years as a leader in the field of dispute resolution, in 2014 in Band 1 of the Most in Demand Arbitrators in Spain. Jean-Marie obtained a PhD (with honours) from the University of Lausanne in 1988 (Jugement et sentence arbitrale) and a diploma from the Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations at the Hague Academy of International Law in 1987 (Transnational Arbitration and State Contracts). He is a regular speaker and publisher on arbitration, art law and sports law (for example at the ICC, the IBA, Alarb and the CEA). He is member of ICC, LCIA, Milan Chamber of Arbitration Arbitrators Club; board member of Club Español de Arbitraje. His working languages are Spanish, French and English.

Tomás Navarro Blakemore

Tomás’ work focuses on domestic and international arbitration and litigation. He also advises non-profit organisations and social enterprises on structuring, tax advice and governance. In particular, Tomás has been involved in several commercial and investment arbitration proceedings under the ICC, UNCITRAL, CAS, Swiss and ICSID Rules as well as in ad hoc proceedings related to construction, distribution, corporate and sport related matters. His working languages are French, English and Spanish.He is a member of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) Below 40, the Club Español de Arbitraje (CEA-40) and the Foreign Lawyers Section of the Geneva Bar (SABE) and is currently studying for the Geneva Bar exams.

On 11 January 2017, the Swiss Federal Council (which is the Executive Body in Switzerland) published its proposed amendments for the revision of Chapter 12 of the Swiss Private International Law Act (Chapter 12 PILA), which governs international arbitration in Switzerland.
